There seems to be between two and four a day on offer, and the tasks don’t take particularly long to complete. When you speak to the fire, it will either tell you that someone has a spirit log they want to give you, or that nobody has one. In fact, it often deliberately stops you from grinding, and that’s where Cozy Grove’s biggest flaw comes into play. In Cozy Grove’s case, the grind ramps up after a few days, but never to unbearable levels. It’s not exciting, but games like this are supposed to be for chilling out - it literally has cozy in the name - and a better measurement would be how grindy they are. You need to scurry around the island picking up sticks, digging in loose patches of dirt, or hammering away at rocks in order to earn precious resources. The activities themselves can be dull too, although I would actually argue that’s a good thing. The game tells you you’re further along in the story, but it doesn’t often feel like it. You don’t often get any actual story, they just say “thanks” and chuck a spirit log your way. You collect the sticks or the rocks or the lost pieces of paper for them, and a row of hearts above their head slowly fills up while an on screen message tells you that you’ve made some story progress. Each character feels less like an actual person (or anthropomorphic ghost) and more like a walking to-do list. Their dialogue kind of embodies these tropes, but only in the case of minor inflections - there’s never much personality. All of the characters seem to fit into vague tropes - the artsy one, the no-nonsense sailor, and so on - but none of them really commit to the bit. Perhaps it's not because of the burden of its role that the fire lacks depth though perhaps it's because Cozy Grove is understated to a fault. If you’re expecting something like Calcifer from Howl’s Moving Castle, you’ll be disappointed. Oh, and if you’re wondering “does that mean the fire is a ghost too?” then the answer is “yes, but it’s way less fun than you’d expect that to be.” The fire has to act as the narrator, the exposition giver, and constantly pushes you to go and talk to the other ghosts, so there’s not much room for the fire to actually be a character in itself. You earn these by completing collections for the various ghosts and repeatedly feed them to your fire to level up your island. The main way to improve your island is with spirit logs. The Livescribe smartpen is an assistive technology aid that facilitates the note-taking and learning process. Great for college students, or high school students taking honors or AP courses Most popular use: note-taking in the classroom In fact, she found it too challenging and chose not to use this feature of the smartpen. However, given her auditory-processing difficulties, she did not find listening to classroom discussions helpful. He was a strong advocate he requested use of the pen in all of his classes and his request was granted.Īnother student found that taking notes, docking the pen to the computer, and creating notebooks facilitated her learning the material presented. He used the bookmarking system often, created custom notebooks, and e-mailed notes to his friends. There is a bookmarking icon on the Livescribe smartpen paper which allows you to mark important information. One eighth grader mastered the pen and found it extremely helpful. He found this very useful when studying for mid-term exams and said he would use the Livescribe smartpen in college. He then docked the pen to the computer and stored his notes in a customized notebook that he created. At home, he listened to the audio playback and then took additional notes. Note taking in other classes was minimal so he used the audio recording device. The oldest participant, a senior in high school, used the pen frequently in Anatomy where he had to take extensive notes. During the six-week project students were contacted once a week and asked to talk about their experience using the Livescribe smartpen. All of the students received permission to use the pen in school. They were privately trained for 90 minutes and had access to other training aids, such as the Livescribe getting started guide, Smartpen 101 tutorial, or the Livescribe website. Each student was given an Echo 4GB smartpen. The smaller sample of students allowed us to observe how these products were actually used by the student. In order to learn more about the Livescribe smartpen, the YCDC asked six students, five in high school and one in eighth grade, to use the pen for six weeks. If you choose, you can even purchase additional applications, such as a dictionary for the Livescribe smartpen. You can also share your notes with your friends through e-mail, Evernote, Facebook, and such. Individual, customized notebooks can be created–one for science, math or history, for example. New notes will appear in a different-colored ink. You can add notes to your notebook at any time and then re-dock your pen to the computer. You can also search for a particular word and listen from there. If you have used the audio recording you can place your cursor on a word and the audio playback will begin at that point. Your notes appear just as they were written. In addition to listening to the audio recording by tapping on your notes, you can transfer notes to your computer through Livescribe Desktop software. If when listening to the audio recording you discover you have missed important information, you can add it to your notes at that time. The audio will begin from that point in your notes. Later on you can go back and listen to any part of the audio recording by tapping anywhere on your written notes. If you choose to record and take notes simultaneously, you can spend more time listening to the speaker and then write only the most important information. Stop the recording whenever you want by tapping on the “stop” or “pause” icon. If you are a slow writer, have difficulty taking notes, or simply want to record the speaker, tap on the “record” icon at the bottom of the page and the pen will record what is said from that moment on. If you choose not to take notes, you can record audio and replay the session. You can print your own paper if you have a compatible laser printer. The Livescribe smartpen works with Livescribe dot paper which comes in a variety of sizes. Once the pen is turned on, which requires the click of a button, the pen will begin taking a picture of the notes that you write. It also has a built-in microphone that lets you record what is being said. Inside the pen is a camera that takes a picture of your notes as you write them. The Livescribe smartpen captures everything that you write and everything that is spoken. Furthermore, Apple's own FireWire was not supported. This meant that the only native applications for OS X Server 1.0 were written for the "Yellow Box" API, which went on to become known as "Cocoa". "Carbon", essentially a subset of "classic" Mac OS API calls, was also absent. The Dock and the Aqua appearance were not included these were added later in Mac OS X. Unlike any version of Classic Mac OS, windows with unsaved content display a black dot in the window close button like NeXTSTEP did. The user interface still uses the Display PostScript-based window server from NeXTSTEP, instead of the Quartz-based WindowServer, which would appear a year later in Mac OS X Public Beta. Like classic Mac OS, it has a single menu bar across the top of the screen, but file management is performed in Workspace Manager from NeXTSTEP instead of the classic Mac OS Finder. Server 1.0 contains a mix of features from the classic Mac OS, NeXTSTEP and Mac OS X. It did not include the eventual Aqua user interface (instead using NeXTSTEP's Workspace Manager shell mixed with aspects of Mac OS 8's "Platinum" user interface) or Carbon API. Mac OS X Server 1.0 was a prelude to the first consumer-oriented version of the OS-Mac OS X 10.0-which was released in 2001. It could run applications written using the "Yellow Box" API, and featured components such as NetBoot, the QuickTime Streaming Server, components carried over from NeXTSTEP, and the "Blue Box" environment (which allows a Mac OS 8.5 session to be launched as a separate process to run legacy Mac OS software). It was Apple's first commercial product to be derived from "Rhapsody"-an eventual replacement for the classic Mac OS derived from NeXTSTEP's architecture (acquired in 1997 as part of Apple's purchase of NeXT) and BSD-like Mach kernel. Released on March 16, 1999, it was the first version of Mac OS X Server. Mac OS X Server 1.0 is a operating system developed by Apple Computer. Taking it upon himself to defend the human world, he defends the fortresses from the Mob one by one (much to the bewilderment of his teacher, who narrates the storyline). In order to protect the human world, they have constructed magic-powered fortresses throughout the Dead World to guard the Rifts, particularly from the adversarial faction known as 'the Mob' - a brutish horde of creatures such as Orcs, Ogres and Gnolls which, despite being unintelligent, would otherwise pose a major threat to the human world due to their vast numbers.Īfter a surprise attack by the Mob, the player character, known only as the Hero (voiced by Rob McCollum), finds himself as the last living member of the Order, as the Mob appears to have suddenly obtained a surge in both strength and intelligence. Using this power, the Order is able to maintain a perfect world for humanity by using magic to manipulate nature. The story revolves around the Order, an elite faction of wizards and warriors who guard the Rifts, magical openings between the human world and the 'Dead World', which provide a source of magical power throughout both worlds. These improvements remain with the player, so that they may return to earlier levels with these improved traps to earn more skulls. The player, after completing each level the first time, is also rewarded with a new trap type for their Spellbook they can use in subsequent levels. Skulls are used to buy improvements to traps and weapons in the player's spellbook, such as increasing damage, reducing cost, or making them more effective against the orcs. If the player should lose all their health or fall off the level, they will respawn back at the Rift but this will cost them a number of Rift Points.Īfter defeating the last wave, the player is awarded a number of skulls, up to 5 (or on Apprentice difficulty, limited to two), based on their score (reflecting how many Rift points remain) and the time needed to defeat all the waves. The player must watch their health and mana used for their weapons but orcs may drop health and mana potions that will replenish these alternatively the player can heal while in proximity of the Rift. Once the player initiates a wave, they can run about the level to participate in combat or place additional traps. Later, the player gains access to Weavers, who for various costs can boost certain effects on the player or traps placed in the manner of a technology tree these effects only last for that level. Traps can be placed at any time, including in combat, and between waves, placed traps can be removed and refunded for their cost. The player is given an amount of money to spend on trap placement at the start, and earns more by defeating the orcs and after completing waves money can also be dropped by certain monsters that must be collected by the player. Such traps include floor, wall, and ceiling traps, and several Guardians that will act on their own accord. Traps typically work once and then have a reset period before they will activate again. Traps can be placed on any appropriate surface, but each trap costs in-game currency to place, and traps will have variable costs based on their effectiveness. The player selects a number of traps and equipment (up to ten) from their current Spellbook once the player starts placing traps they will be bound to this selection. In general, waves will begin a few seconds after the player defeats the prior one, but roughly every three waves on all bar Nightmare difficulty, the player is given a break where they can set up traps and initiate the next wave when they are ready.Īs the War Mage, the player has the ability to place numerous traps and arm themselves with weapons and equipment to defeat the orcs. The orc armies arrive in increasingly more difficult waves, with each level having between four and twelve waves. Generally, each orc that reaches a Rift deducts a point from the starting Rift Score while specialized orcs may take off more points if the Rift Score drops to zero, the level is lost and the player will have to start again. Orcs Must Die! is a variant of a tower defense game the player as the War Mage must defend one or more Rifts on each level from an onslaught of orcs and other creatures that emerge from one or more entrances and traverse the level. One special feature of the new tessellation model is that it is capable of generating tessellation patterns having rough boundaries. To copy all shapes, first click-and-drag a rectangle around the shapes to glue them together. The main focus of this article is to present a new tessellation model which can be applied to model the shape characteristics of the aluminium grain images. Shapes can be tessellated on surfaces other than the plane, such a spheres. Such a piecewise constant function modelling approach is naturally divided into three parts: shape, colour and noise. One possible approach for modelling these colour aluminium grain images is to approximate the images by trivariate piecewise constant functions corrupted by additive and correlated noise. Escher portrayed realistic objects like fish, birds, and other animals, in his drawings and prints. The work described in this article is motivated by the need for modelling and simulating some colour aluminium grain images. MC Escher is known as a master of tessellation artwork. Tessellations have been used for thousands of years in architectural designs and structures. The squares meet with no overlapping and can be extended on a surface forever. For example, a checkerboard is a tessellation comprised of alternating colored squares. Tessellations are connected patterns made of repeating shapes that cover a surface completely without overlapping or leaving any holes. He became known for his detailed realistic prints that achieved bizarre optical and conceptual effects. My daughter is three and I still seem to be covered in effluvia of one kind or another. It wasn’t until I got up the nerve to meet with moms in the Park Slope Parents “2010 Spring Babies” group that I began to realize there really were other sleep-deprived, snot-covered parents out there looking for support and camaraderie. In the book, you talk about how isolating those early days of parenthood can be - something that I wasn’t prepared for, and had a very difficult time with. Well sometimes when a mommy and daddy love each other very much… honestly, having a child was both a source of great material and a big fire lit under my rear - kids are notoriously bad earners, so it was time to step up, productivity-wise. In any case, an extension should support GraphQL. Of course, an extension could choose to support only the most popular one(s). However, it is quite a task to supply a Magento extension with frontend support for all those different frontends: Perhaps a React component could be used for DEITY, FrontCommerce and PWA Studio, but a Vue component would be needed for Vue Storefront, an Alpine/Tailwind adoptation for Hyva Themes, etcetera. And therefore, extension should add support for this. Yes, there is still the Luma theme with its Knockout and RequireJS usage, but it is to be deprecated, difficult to extend and bad for performance. There no longer is a single frontend, there are numerous. How to modern-day extensions support modern-day storefrontsįor Magento extensions that alter the behaviour of the Magento frontend, the situation has changed. In short, modern-day storefronts rely upon GraphQL. And Vue Storefront supports GraphQL as well: With v1, this involves a switch to swap ElasticSearch for GraphQL and with Next, this is part of the connector architecture. Other PWA providers like DEITY and FrontCommerce are using GraphQL as well, while actually relying more upon their own GraphQL endpoints. And it also uses GraphQL to communicate with the backend. Hyva Themes - using AlpineJS and TailwindCSS - is not a headless solution, but rather an alternative frontend for Luma. And this React app is connecting to Magento by using GraphQL. To proof this headless concept is working, Magento is working on a Magento PWA Studio - a toolbox with developer aids to let developers build their own React-based app. Magento goes headless and this has everything to do with GraphQL. And this GraphQL API is able to act as the glue between a headless storefront and the Magento backend system. The main reason why Magento extensions need to support GraphQL has to do with the fact that Magento 2.3.0 introduced a GraphQL API which slowly got expanded upon with other versions. Magento 2 goes headless thanks to GraphQL Perhaps you are familiar with this point and you agree it. Magento extensions need to support GraphQL. I have spoken with QNAP and they expect this feature to be available soon. The only thing I can see that is missing is a method to update your existing containers. ConclusionĪs you can see, this is a fairly painless task getting your first container up and running on a QNAP device. Once up and running, depending on the container you have set up, give it a moment to initialise, then browse to its web UI using. Once this has been done, you are ready to click "Create" and your container will be configured, after which you will see it listed in the "Overview" section. The mount points within the container need to be kept as they are otherwise when you start the container, the application won't operate correctly. Now do the same for your recordings folder. Simply click in "Host Path" and browse to your appdata folder you created for TVHeadend then add /config to the "Mount Point" and leave Read & Write ticked. Here we setup our folders for the container appdata and also the recordings. As I don't need this, I will skip past it onto "Shared Folders" If you do have a DVB device connected to your QNAP, you would now go into the "Device" section and add select the device from the drop down. On the "Network" section, this can vary if you have a DVB device connected directly to your QNAP NAS, which if you do, you would add the ports 99 while under Network Mode "NAT" but as I have a network tuner, I need to set this to "Host" and that's it. Please note - the variables PUID/PGID reference the UID/GID values you acquired earlier. Under the "Environments" section, fill it in as I have but adjust your PUID/PGID accordingly. For this container we will be using Environments / Network / Shared Folders. Here you will be given multiple sections you can set up. Fill out the name (1), leave everything else blank and click "Advanced Settings" (2). Once you have confirmed that, you will be shown a the "Create Container" window. Click "Next" and click "Ok" to the third party warning. You will then be presented with an option to select which version to install always choose "latest" unless otherwise stated to. Load up Container Station and click "Create Container" (1) then type in the image you want to use - in this case, I typed in linuxserver/tvheadend (2) then clicked "Search" (3), followed by "Install" (4). Now we have the folders/permissions set up and we know our UID/GID information, we are going to create our TVHeadend container via the Container Station. For this guide, here are my results of that command: # id dockuser Replace with the user you created earlier. Use your favourite method to ssh into the QNAP NAS and run the following command: id This is needed so that the files created by the container are accessible by users on the host OS. Next we need to find the UID/GID of the user we created earlier. Same principle again with any folder you want a container to use, make sure it has R/W permissions. I will also create another share here as well called "recordings". I will name this "tvheadend" as I am using it for this example. Once you have your appdata folder created, create a folder for the container's config data. Here we will call the folder "appdata" and for the "Configure access privileges for users" we want to give our new user full read/write access to this folder. Load up "File Station" and create a new share by clicking on the + next to your Data Volume. Now we are going to create a new shared folder that we will keep all our docker appdata in. I will be creating a user called "dockuser" and everything else I have left as default (User Group etc). Go to "Users" from the main screen QTS, select "Create User" and create your user accordingly. To start, we want to create a user for our docker containers to use so that they are not running as root, primarily for security reasons.
